From the wild to the safe, Carmelo Anthony has shoe collectors covered with the new multiple colorways of his Jordan Melo M11, scheduled for launch on Jan. 3, Saturday, at 10 a.m. EST.
"Carmelo Anthony and Jordan Brand have teamed up in recognition of Anthony's 12th season in the NBA with his 11th signature shoe, the Melo M11, making him the brand's most tenured athlete," said the Bleacher Report.
"[Anthony is] leading a family of professionals spanning a wide array of experience, sports and achievements," Nike News added.
"The Jordan Melo M11 is Jordan Brand's latest performance model, incorporating the brand's pinnacle technology created for the basketball court: FlightPlate," said Nike.com, which has been receiving preorders for $160 a pair and will ship units on launch day.
According to Sneaker Report, the FlightPlate selling point is a mechanism to enhance cushioning and maximize liftoff. Meanwhile, Nike.com added that the shoes sport a molded collar meant as ankle support.
Anthony hosted a simple media launch at Terminal 23 in New York City on Dec. 15, per Sports Illustrated. The three options for release are: "Concrete Island," "Jordan Family," and Black/Gold, now "Gold Standard," all inspired by New York.
According to Nike News, "Concrete Island" applies the bright lights and vibrant street art situated in a city of concrete structures. "Jordan Family" uses the staple colors of the Jordan Brand as homage to the brand and as an allusion "the great Jordan rivalries with New York throughout the 1990s," it added.
Meanwhile, the report also said, the Black/Gold option, characterized by luxury, is Anthony's favorite. Its name, "Gold Standard," was derived from fans' suggestions online — via @carmeloanthony on Twitter.
According to Foot Locker Unlocked, Foot Locker and House of Hoops will sell "Concrete Island" and "Jordan Family" but only Footlocker will carry "Gold Standard." Meanwhile, Footlocker.com will have a complete roll beginning 10 a.m. EST.
Reviewing the "Christmas" colorway, Weartesters said the Melo M11 has its ups and downs.
"Of course, certain aspects could be better, but the perfect shoe ain't out there yet, and if it was, I would be out of a job," said the reviewer. "Traction was the weakest point, and it wasn't 'throw 'em out' bad — just a little worse than I expected. Cushioning, fit, transition, comfort, and MATERIALS are all good to great."
On Sole Collector's poll, 66 percent of those who voted wanted to buy the colorways, plus the "Red Hook Sunset" variant. This is in contrast to a generally negative comments section that states, among others, "poor melo always gets the worst. just discontinue this line," "Complete garbage" and "wack."
On Nike Talk, there are mixed reviews, but a forumer said: "Melo always has the most comfortable shoes for me." Another said, "I like these a lot more than the M10, especially the black and gold colorway."
