The Plants vs. Zombies franchise has seen a huge amount of success with the release of the free mobile game Plants vs. Zombies 2: It's About Time, but many fans have been wondering when the franchise would return to consoles. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare was announced as an Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC game, but publisher EA and developer Popcap haven't provided an official release date for the game—until now.
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will be released on Feb. 18 for the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, according to IGN. However, the PC edition of the game has not been confirmed for this release date. The game will be coming to Europe on Feb. 20.
The new game will be quite the departure for the series. While the original Plants vs. Zombies and it's sequel are top-down tower defense games, Garden Warfare will be a third-person shooter game starring the plants found within the franchise. The game will be class-based, and the game will only consist of online multiplayer game modes. To help highlight what fans can expect from Garden Warfare, a new trailer has been released featuring new gameplay footage, which can be seen below.
The demo shows a 24-person game mode called Vanquish. In this mode, two teams will face off against each other, with one controlling the plants and the other controlling the zombies. For the first time, users will be able to play as the zombies and try to take out the plants. Zombie players will get several classes of zombies to choose from, such as the All-Star Zombie, which can deal heavy melee damage as well as use a heavy machine gun. Zombie Engineers can launch drones for remote attacks and ride jackhammers to maneuver quickly. Players will be able to customize their zombies in many different ways to give them unique appearances. Variants will also change the way zombies play in different ways. Players will also have many different plants to choose from.
While the game is coming to both the Xbox One and Xbox 360, there are some differences in the game. The Xbox 360 and PC version will be $10 cheaper at $30, but will not include Boss Mode like the Xbox One.
