Buffalo Bills' quarterback Kyle Orton walked away from his last game on Monday, emptied his locker on Monday and never came back.

It was the perfect retirement plan for the 32-year-old player according to Deadspin, noting that it was a fast and clever escape that nobody really saw coming.

His teammates said that they did not even realize that Orton already retired, theorizing that he just decided to pack up his clothes and go on a vacation.

But Buffalo News explained that the player already announced his plan to retire after playing 10 seasons in the NFL and functioning as the Bills starting quarterback for the past 12 games of the current season.

The same report added that the instant news greeted fellow teammates when they were cleaning out their locker rooms after their victory agains the New England Patriots.

Running back Fred Jackson said he was not even informed of the recent happening until he learned of it from reporters.

"That's his choice. Obviously, he was a guy that did some things for us this year, stepped in and played a major role in what we were able to accomplish. But we wish him well. Now, we have to see how EJ Manuel responds, see what the next step is with the front office and things like that and kind of figure out what's going to go down," Jackson added, as quoted by Buffalo News.

In a report by ESPN, Jackson also said that he did not expect Orton to announce his retirement too soon, especially with his previous conversations with his teammate. "I'll kind of pick his brain and see what made him decide to do so, but you got to respect it."

Jackson, however, said that he hopes that Orton leaving Buffalo Bills will not become a setback for the team.

In August this year, Orton signed a one-year deal with the Bills worth about $5 million. Prior to this contract, he was previously signed with the Dallas Cowboys in 2013.

According to Buffalo News, though Orton's future with the Bills is still uncertain, many are hoping that he will return to the training camp and work with another quarterback that the team will get during the offseason.

During his time with the Bills, he was able to complete 287 of 447 passes for 3,018 yards and 18 touchdowns and threw 10 interceptions.

"I just have been going at it for 10 years, and it's just a family decision and I've decided to get home and be a dad and call it a day," Orton was quoted by Buffalo News as saying.
