New York police are using a sketch of a man wanted for robbery and attempted rape to help find a suspect who mugged and sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman earlier this month in a Brooklyn park.
According to the NYPD, the woman was walking near Madison Street and Patchen Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant around midnight on Nov. 9 when a man grabbed her from behind, reports the Gothamist. The culprit then dragged her into Reinaldo Salgado Park where he threw her to the ground and repeatedly punched her. He also took $60 from her.
Before his escape, police say the man pushed the victim against a fence and sexually assaulted her. The victim was hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition.
Residents from the area were shocked by the attack, which occurred not too far from a police station. One woman, Amanda Packman, who lives across the street from the park, told NBC New York that "It's petrifying. I'm usually on the phone [when walking through the park.]"
A man named Gino Smith said, "I find that bold and brazen, with police two blocks from this park."
The suspect is described as being 5'9 with a medium build, light hazel eyes and a medium skin tone. He was last seen wearing blue sweat pants and a dark hooded sweatshirt.
Anyone with information in regard to this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). People can also anonmously submit tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) and then entering TIP577.
