It looks like Sony's the first tech giant to grace the world with a tablet come 2015.
According to NDTV, a recent claim from Taiwan indicated that the Japanese manufacturer is set to launch a 12.9-inch tablet in Q1 2015. Citing sources from DigiTimes, the outlet noted that the rumored device has been targeted at the high-end of the consumer tail, marking a retail price above the $1000 margin.
A variation of the report claimed that the tablet may arrive in H1 2015.
Sources pointed that Sony has been aggressive about its tablet product line, despite its exit from the PC market, wrote DigiTimes. The new tablet was tipped to be manufactured by Pegatron Technology -- the same company behind Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface tablets. Accordingly, tipsters went on to reveal that "related components" for the device's mass production were already prepared.
Earlier this year, Sony has reported loss of $1.26 billion in its PC venture, said NDTV. This is one apparent reason why the company has decided to ditch the market.
Aside from the large screen size, Sony's rumored tablet has been hinted to pack a whopping resolution of 3840 x 2400 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip (unspecified at the moment) and an 8 MP camera, said GSMArena. On top of these specs, the device allegedly comes in a thickness of 8.6 mm.
As told by the outlet, such resolution is higher than the standard 4K, which comes at 3840 x 2160 pixels. The display was said to result in a 16:10 aspect ratio.
Meanwhile, Tech Times is convinced that Sony could be looking forward to kick Apple and Samsung out of its way in the tablet arena.
This year, we've heard talks surrounding the Cupertino giant's rumored tablet called the iPad Air Plus / iPad Pro. The device has been suggested to pack a 12.2-inch display, dimensions of 305.31mm x 220.8mm x 7mm, A9 processor, iSight camera, Touch ID sensor, Lightning connector, four speakers (situated on each edge of its case) and iOS 8 / iOS 9 support.
But rumor mills have churned for Samsung as well, talking of an upcoming 2015 tablet called "Warhol." As told by Tech Times, the device was said to sport a 13.3-inch LCD display ( in lieu of AMOLED) with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels.
If the reports all bear truth, we're bound to see three gargantuan tablets facing off one another next year. Sony's device appears to feature the greatest resolution, but Samsung's Warhol beats the rest in terms of screen size.
