The trainer of English boxer Amir Khan said that his boy could beat 8-division boxing champ Manny Pacquiao in case they face off next year.

In a BoxingNews24 report, Virgil Hunter, Khan's trainer reportedly expressed that a match with Pacquiao may be easier to win compared to a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr.

There have been talks of Khan and Pacquiao facing off each other but those remained as plans as the camps of the two fighters have not yet come up to a decision if the two will really be put up against each other inside the ring.

BoxingNews 24 explained that Khan did well when he was a sparring mate for Pacquiao when the English fighter was still training under coach Freddie Roach.

"In looking at some of the video from one of the sparing sessions, Khan did appear to dominate Pacquiao. Khan used his size, hand speed and combinations to give Pacquiao fits," the report added.

Hunter said that Khan, when matched with Pacquiao, will definitely do better than the Filipino fighter.

"I would have to say that I would give Khan more than a better chance at winning that fight. My personality is not to predict but I'm confident that he [Khan] would win that fight," Hunter was quoted by BoxingNews24 as saying.

Hunter also told DigitalJournal that Khan has more of an advantage against Pacman since the latter would need to work hard for his training.

"Manny still fights at a high-energy style. He has not made that transition. He hasn't re-invented himself like all fighters in their mid-to-late-30s have to do," the trainer added noting that Pacquiao is still the same fighter today: energetic but not relaxed.

Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya shares the same opinon as Hunter and noted Khan has the fastest hand in his division, way faster than Pacquiao and Mayweather.

Last Dec. 13, Khan was able to showcase his speedy moves when he beat Devon Alexander in 12 rounds of boxing. Boxing Scene said that Alexander is already known to be a fast fighter but he still looked slow with his punches against Khan.

"I would have to say Amir Khan [is faster than Pacquiao], at this stage of their careers...Amir Khan [is faster], by far probably. Amir Khan is only 28-years-old I believe. He is just hitting his peak right now as a fighter. He just moved up to welterweight and he is just settling down. One thing about Amir, he also has fast footwork," De La Hoya told Boxing Scene.

Come next year, the whole boxing world will discover what is in store for these three big players: Mayweather, Pacquiao and Khan. Recent news and revelations said that a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is likely to happen in May but that remains to be seen and proven.
