The sequel to Bungie and Activision's adventure-action game "Destiny" has been rumored to launch in Spring 2016, according to reports cited by the Ecumenical News. The outlet took note of Activision's CEO Eric Hirshberg, who revealed that development of the next installment is currently underway.

Hirshberg confirmed, "Work has also begun on future expansion packs, as well as on our next full game release."

The source went on to report that Activision has laid out a 10-year plan for the franchise, which naturally defends the possibility of a sequel. In addition, the outlet cited contract deals in 2012 between Bungie and Activision, which indicated that multiple sequels are to emerge. Of course, this translates to the idea of "Destiny 2," "Destiny 3" and so on.

Earlier this month, VentureBeat reported that progress from "Destiny" will carry over to its sequel. This means characters from the original title can conveniently transition to the sequel once it comes out.

Community manager David Dague explained over IGN, "For 'Destiny 2,' the idea is that the Guardian that you have created is something you can bring along with you on that adventure. If you take a look at the way people have played other games for a long period of time, they've had a relationship with the same character for a very long time."

It appears that "Destiny" is trying to establish a long-term relationship with its players. Such transfer has also been confirmed to IGN by Bungie.

Furthermore, Dague shared that he has seen the concept art for "Destiny 2." He also mentioned about new, exotic weapons -- which could potentially spice up every player's gaming experience, "It's a lot of fun to walk around the studio because there's always somebody thinking about visions for the future. The next place you'll go, the next enemy that you'll fight, the next thing you'll earn for doing those things."

With recent statistics in hand, Bungie officially announced that there were 12,869,066 players who got their hands at "Destiny." Expectedly, the numbers would have grown at the time of this writing, but it only points out how successful the first installment of the franchise has been -- and all the more we get excited for its sequel.
