The Christmas episode of "Downton Abbey" is almost upon us and fans of the British drama should get excited, seeing as cast members of the show refer to the special as "glorious."

The 2-hour holiday episode, titled "A Moorland Holiday," is scheduled to air on ITV at 9 PM on Christmas Day. According to North Devon Journal, the episode will cover several weeks near the end of 1924, beginning in the grouse shooting season and will move on to Christmas.

The cast of "Downton Abbey" only had nice words to say about the holiday special. Enstarz reports that Lesley Nicol, who portrays Mrs. Patmore in the drama series, said that the Christmas episode is "glorious" and "fantastic." When asked why viewers should watch the episode, Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham) said "because it's special and it's Christmas."

According to Independent, Bonneville also implied that the special will be somewhat different to 2012's Christmas episode, where Lady Mary's (Michelle Dockery) husband, Matthew (Dan Stevens), died in a car accident the same day his son George was born.

"You'll have a lump in your throat, but in a very nice way," the actor said on "The Graham Norton Show," Independent reports.

Penelope Wilton, who plays Isobel Crawley, didn't reveal any major plot details about the episode, but said that there is going to be a lot going on among the characters.

The Christmas episode will revolve around "Brancaster Castle in Northumberland rented out by Lord Sinderby for a shooting party, to which the Crawley family is invited. But the grouse don't look like being the only 'victims' of the episode," North Devon Journal reports.

Guest stars include Alun Armstrong, who will play the Sinderbys' butler Stowell, and Jane Lapotaire as Princess Irina. The latter could be a potential romantic rival to the Abbey's Dowager Countess Violet Crawley, played by Maggie Smith. According to Telegraph, Stowell is bringing with him "an axe to grind and a scandalous secret that threatens to undermine the holiday."

The servants back at Downton will also provide their fair share of drama. Anna (Joanne Froggatt) will face imprisonment for Mr. Green's murder, while Bates (Brendan Coyle) will do whatever it takes to prevent his wife from going to jail. Telegraph notes that "Baxter (Raquel Cassidy) and Molesley (Kevin Doyle) are busy on a joint plan." Carson (Jim Carter) and Mrs. Hughes (Phyllis Logan) will think about going to a business venture together.
