With a six-year deal inked between UFC and Reebok for uniform options, the two also signed partnerships with two UFC champions: Ronda Rousey and Jon Jones who will become the brand's newest ambassadors.
It was noted in an MMA Weekly report published on Yahoo Sports that the two fighters will "work closely" with Reebok in developing and launching its new range of UFC apparel and also a new collection of footwear. This apparel was reportedly created for people who do combat sports as a way of staying fit.
It has been noted that Rousey and Jones were the two fighters to sign individually with the brand and will join the likes of former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks and lightweight champ Anthony Pettis.
"From the very beginning, it was clear to me that Reebok is passionately invested in our sport and its athletes. The team is committed to helping push our sport forward and I am proud to be part of it. Reebok understands what tough fitness means for women and what women need for their fitness lifestyle," Rousey told MMA Weekly, adding that this new venture will help them inspire more people to train like real fighters do.
Jones, on the other hand, said that the collaboration between UFC and Reebok is aimed at taking the sport into the next level.
"It's going to be an amazing journey and I'm incredibly proud to be a part of it," he added.
Jones also told MMA Fighting that he is excited to join the brand which has made great history in fitness and training.
"What I'm particularly excited about is that the input of the fighters is going to drive the product innovation, which will ensure all athletes, whether they are fighting for a world championship or just to be fit, will have the very best gear," he said.
Fox Sports noted that Jones will transfer to Reebok after losing his endorsement deal with Nike where he had a T-shirt line. The brand, according to the same report, also had Anderson Silva and heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos as its endorsers before it decided to move out of the MMA market.
Aside from this endorsement, Jones is also an endorser of popular headphone brand Beats by Dre which was recently purchased by Apple for $3 billion.
Meanwhile, Reebok president Matt O'Toole explained to Fox Sports why they decided to pick Rousey and Jones as their newest brand endorsers.
"Not only are Ronda and Jon admired by millions of UFC fans, but they also are among the fittest, most disciplined athletes in the world, and an inspiration to the millions of people around the globe who train like fighters. We're looking forward to working with each of them and tapping into their insight and expertise to create world-class training products and fight gear," O'Toole said.
