The spinoff series of AMC's popular zombie drama "The Walking Dead" will take place in an entirely different location -- Los Angeles, California, TV Line reports.

The new setting, which is a far cry from the current location of the show in Atlanta, Georgia, will offer viewers a different perspective on how other places fared in the zombie apocalypse. According to Paste Magazine, AMC President Charlie Collier discussed the spinoff back in September and even hinted the change in set-up.

"Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world," Collier said, as quoted by Paste Magazine.

Time notes that the change of location to the West Coast will add a multitude of plot options, such as: "Beaches and the ocean, Hollywood, iconic landmarks, walker celebrities (though the cable show could likely never top Bill Murray in Zombieland), a nearby desert, and a larger metropolis to play with than the original hit's occasional dips into Atlanta."

Even though the spinoff's setting is in Los Angeles, it doesn't guarantee that filming will also take place in there. According to TV Line, producers may choose other cities that could double as LA; Vancouver, for example.

The show's pilot, written by Dave Erickson and series creator Robert Kirkman, is expected to start shooting in early 2015. Only three actors have been confirmed to star in the companion series: Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, and Australian actress Alycia Debnam Carey, Time reports.

According to Deadline, the plot will focus on a divorced male teacher and a female guidance counselor. Dillane will reportedly portray the role of the counselor's son who went through drug addiction problems while Debnam Carey, on the other hand, will play the ambitious daughter.

In a statement, Kirkman expressed his excitement for the companion series. Kirkman believes that the upcoming spinoff, which will not follow the events of the comic book where "The Walking Dead" is based on, will provide a clean slate.

"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of 'The Walking Dead' universe," Kirkman said, as quoted by TV Line. "The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
