The PlayStation 4 is set to receive a new firmware update, Update 1.51, which will help bring some minor improvements to the console after the console's Nov. 15 release date. At the same time, publisher EA has revealed that they have had quite the success selling games on the console, with 1 in 3 games sold on the console being published by EA.
The new firmware update will be available starting on Nov. 20. Sony's Eric Lempel explains in a blog post what sort of tweaks to the PlayStation 4 the new patch will bring to the console.
"With this minor required update, stability of system software has been improved. In addition, minor refinements to elements of the system UI (such as clearly indicating when a user downloads a game and a game patch at the same time) have been introduced," wrote Lempel.
While this firmware update will help stabilize the user interface for the console, it does not address the various technical problems being reported for the console, though those problems appear to be more hardware problems, rather than firmware issues.
Meanwhile, EA has had quite the early success on the PlayStation 4. CFO of EA Games Blake J. Jorgensen spoke at the UBS Global Technology Conference and revealed that the company currently has about a 1 in 3 share in software sales on the console.
"We had a great weekend of sales relative to the console that looks like the average consumer tie ratio is about three pieces of software, which is exactly what we thought, and because our super-slate that we've got out there looks like one of every three pieces of software was coming out of Electronic Arts...So we're really excited," said Jorgensen, according to Seeking Alpha.
"Essentially [our] biggest worry now is making sure there is enough product in the stores, because the consumers obviously want to buy a software to go with the new boxes."
This claim makes sense, due to the number of launch titles EA had for the PlayStation 4. Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Madden NFL 25 and NBA Live 14 are all launch titles for the PlayStation 4, so EA has quite a selection to choose from on the PlayStation 4, and all have strong reviews as well.
Look out for more PlayStation 4 news right here as the console continues to gain momentum after launch.
