Glancing at one's wrist has never been the same as yesterday, most specially now that the world has met the Android Wear and Apple Watch. Gone are the days of conventional time-telling, because these wristwatches exist not just for that sole purpose -- they're simply more than your ordinary fashion accessory.
With the Android Wear out in the market and the Apple Watch hitting shelves early in 2015, we've curated their most important features to help you decide which watch to purchase. If you're just interested to find out what sets these wearables of our time apart, you too can read on.
Design & Collection
The Android Wear prides in its collection of six unique watches, featuring dozens of downloadable faces (via Play Store). Android's set comes in a range of shapes and styles, even coming up with a dress code that orders: "Wear what you want." It includes the Samsung Gear Live, Sony SmartWatch 3, LG G Watch R, Moto 360, ASUS ZenWatch and the LG G Watch.
The Apple Watch comes in three different collections: the "basic" Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport and Apple Watch Edition (Luxury). The basic type is offered in three different leather bands; the Sport collection has five various band colors; finally, the Edition collection comes in six elegant color expressions.
Functions
Accordingly, information is presented in the Android Wear even before the user asks for it. The wearable shows weather forecast, commuting duration and flight information.
The Apple Watch is capable of setting alarms, initiating timer / stopwatch and showing moon phases, stocks, weather, world clock and sunrise / sunset notifications.
Connectivity
The Android Wear allows its users to see incoming calls, read text messages and emails "as soon as they arrive." It's an essential function, saving the time needed to flip out a smartphone in the middle of a busy street or a formal business meeting.
A tap in the Apple Watch lets users make a call, send a message and communicate in other unique ways. Through Digital Touch, users can make use of the Sketch, Tap and Heartbeat functions. The wearable also offers quick, preset responses for those busy moments.
Notifications & Voice Command
There would be no more looking at the calendar, because Android Wear notifies its users of the subject, time and location of next appointments. It's a quicker way of dealing with those tight and grueling schedules.
The wearable is likewise interactive. Information may be acquired by saying "OK Google" and asking anything you wish thereafter. One can also ask the device to take a note via voice command (stored in Google Keep), navigate and play music (listen through your phone).
The Apple Watch allows users to record audio, dictate text messages and send emojis. Transferring messages, calls and emails from the wearable to iPhone is also possible. Notifications likewise pop up as necessary.
Fitness
Android Wear helps users track their activities by showing daily summaries of their step counts and heart rates.
Apparently, the Apple Watch does the same -- it measures everything you do throughout the day. But it also details your health data through the Activity app, a feature that includes three rings: (1) Move, which indicates burnt calories; (2) Exercise, which shows the duration of your activity; and (3) Stand, which helps you track those sedentary moments.
There you have it! These are just some of the top features of both wearables. Make sure to head over here (Android Wear) and here (Apple Watch) for more information.
