Pixar Animation Studios, the film company behind the Oscar-winning animated movie "Finding Nemo," has finally revealed more details about the much-anticipated sequel of the 2003 hit.

"Finding Dory," the "Finding Nemo" follow-up set to come out in theaters on June 17, 2016, has some plot details that fans wouldn't expect. Pixar President Jim Morris announced on Comic-Con Experience in Brazil that majority of the film's plot won't take place in the ocean, E! Online reports.

According to E! Online, Dory will learn that she was born and raised at the Marine Biology Institute of California (a complex of rehabilitation for marine life) before being released into the ocean when she was younger.

"Taking place several months after its predecessor, 'Finding Dory' has the namesake character living with Marlin and Nemo on the same reef. When Dory accompanies Nemo on a school field trip, memories of her past and family trigger that send her on a journey to California to go and find them," the news outlet adds.

Ellen DeGeneres, the voice behind the beloved blue fish Dory, will reprise her role in the upcoming film. Albert Brooks, who brought Nemo's father Marlin to life, is also returning. Dory's father Charlie and mother will be voiced by Eugene Levy and Diane Keaton, respectively. E! Online notes that Ty Burrell will also join the cast as the voice behind the Beluga whale named Bailey.

Idris Elba and Domenic West will also serve as voice talents, SlashFilm adds. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will also feature new characters, including an octopus, a whale, and sea lions.

DeGeneres confirmed "Finding Dory" on her Instagram account last year. Check out the accompanying photo the TV host posted below.

"I'm excited that it's finally happening," she told her audience on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." "I read the script and it's fantastic, it's hilarious, it's warm, it's everything that you want it to be," E! Online reports.

"I have waited for this day for a long, long, long, long, long, long time," DeGeneres said, according to another report from E! Online. "I'm not mad it took this long. I know the people at Pixar were busy creating 'Toy Story 16.' But the time they took was worth it. The script is fantastic. And it has everything I loved about the first one: It's got a lot of heart, it's really funny, and the best part is--it's got a lot more Dory."

"Finding Nemo" director Andrew Stanton will come back to direct the sequel, Slash Film reports.
