The good news: Sherlock fans finally have news on when their favorite "Sherlock" reincarnation will hit the small screen for its fourth season.
The bad news: it won't be until sometime in 2016.
Yes, that's right, another year will have to come and go without new episodes of "Sherlock" and fans, according to Latin Times, are pissed and blaming lead actor, Benedict Cumberbatch for his many projects in Hollywood.
But while there may be almost two years to wait before the next season airs, here are a few tidbits about the upcoming season (no matter how far away it seems to be):
1) Season 4 will have three episodes and an additional one-off episode for Christmas 2015 which should satiate the fans for awhile, but with such a long gap between episodes, it is expected that the writers will top off the season 3 finale. Co-creator Steven Moffat told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, "We have a plan to top it. And I do think our plan is devastating. We've practically reduced our cast to tears telling them the plan ... we're probably more excited that we've ever been about Sherlock."
2) Fan Favorite Irene Adler may return, and the actress who played Sherlock's love interest, Lara Pulver, said that it will be up to Mark Gatiss and Moffat. She told the Radio Times, "Sherlock is Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's passion project. If it fits to have her back, I know they'll write it; if it doesn't, I trust them to get it right."
3) However, if Irene doesn't return, another of Sherlock's interests, Janine, is definitely returning. Moffat told IGN, "He likes her, though. He'll see her again. They'll be pals. I loved Yasmine's performance as Janine -- she still likes him in the end. At some point, you know, if Sherlock Holmes has to go to a function and he needs a date, he'll phone her up. Now, he'll not expect her to say no. She'll be very cross with him, but she'll show up, and they'll have a good time. They will, because he likes her."
4) Tom Hiddleston may join the cast, as noted in a Q&A with Gatiss in Brazil. Hiddleston may be joining as the third Holmes brother, but with Gatiss merely joking about the idea, there isn't much to go on with the possibility, but fans would probably love to see Loki in the series, wouldn't they?
5) Moriarty is dead as dead could be, with Moffat saying, "He shot himself in the face. What more do you want?" But Sherlock also jumped off a building and lived to tell the tale, so this could be a ploy.
How excited are you for the next episode of Sherlock?
