"Star Wars" star Mark Hamill is going to take on another role, this time in the small screen. According to CNet, the actor will play the role of The Trickster in the 17th episode of the CW series, a role that he has already played before on CBS' version of "The Flash" in the '90s.
His role will be slightly different from that of several years ago, however, and he won't be the comedic prankster that he was on CBS. CW described his role via HitFlix, saying, "Mark Hamill returns in a brand new interpretation of James Jesse (aka The Trickster), a role he originated on the 90's "Flash" series. In this new iteration, The Trickster is an anarchist terrorist con man serving a life sentence in Iron Heights who helps Barry (Grant Gustin) and Det. West (Jesse L. Martin) to foil the city-wide attacks of a wannabe Trickster eagerly following in the original's deadly footsteps. The episode will reunite him with John Wesley Shipp who went up against him as the original "Flash" on the CBS version."
That being said, Mark Hamill's Trickster will go head to head with Barry's dad, who, as it turned out, played the "Flash" himself in the 90s. However, despite being another villain in the series, Entertainment Weekly noted that Hamill's performance as the Trickster all those years ago is still one of the most memorable.
This performance also paved his way into a bigger superhero universe: he was also noted for his voice as the joker in the animated series of Batman, and most recently, in the game world for "Batman: Arkham."
Hamill's role as the trickster is something that the CW producer, Andrew Kreisberg has been wanting ever since they pitched the show. He told Hitflix, as reported by the Daily Mail, that !" 'Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash.Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes! We are beyond humbled and excited to have him joining us for another round of deadly trickery!"
But while we wait for the Trickster to make his way to Central City, Mark Hamill has been making waves lately as he reprised yet another well-loved role as Luke Skywalker in next year's Star Wars flick with other original cast members that included Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia. The film is helmed by JJ Abrams.
"Star Wars Episode 7" will air on June 2015, while "The Flash" airs Tuesday nights on CW. Hamill's episode, on the other hand, will air sometime in 2015 with Grant Gustin as the new Barry Allen.
