With hype around the PlayStation 4 at fever pitch, a tragic story has emerged surrounding the console's launch: a man was killed trying to buy the PS4 in Florida.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, two men had arranged to buy a PlayStation 4, but something caused the deal to go sour. The two men were shot multiple times and Emmanuel Johnson, 25, was killed. The other unidentified man, 23, remains in the hospital due to his wounds.
Investigators have begun to put together the events that lead to this tragic outcome. Johnson had arranged to meet in front of Orlando Police headquarters to complete the exchange at around 4:30 p.m. However, something changed at the last minute, and the location of the sale was switched to a new location. It was at this new location where the gunshots were fired. No reason was reported for why the deal went wrong, and investigators do not believe that a third person was involved in the incident.
It is tragic to see that a young man's life has been cut short, all for a video game console. Unfortunately, when products such as the PlayStation 4, Grand Theft Auto 5, and the upcoming Xbox One from Microsoft are released, people can overreact and let their judgment get away from them, leading to cases where people's lives are lost and mistakes are made.
While this incident shows the negative side to the PlayStation 4 launch, the release wasn't all bad. Most notably, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant bought several people the console while they were waiting in line at Walmart for the device.
The PlayStation 4 has managed to sell over 1 million copies in the days since it was launched, despite only currently being available in North America. However, the console's reputation has suffered somewhat due to the widely reported technical problems that some users are dealing with, along with a rather lackluster launch lineup for games. Nonetheless, big things are predicted for the console, and many gamers are looking forward to what Sony has in plan for the console in the coming years.
