By now, everyone has probably watched the first trailer of the highly-anticipated movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The 88-second teaser has amassed more than 40 million views on YouTube since its debut on November 28. Fans of the popular sci-fi franchise shared their thoughts about the trailer, with several imitations and spoofs being made in its honor. But there's one person who hasn't watched the teaser - it's no other than "Star Wars" original creator George Lucas.

When Page Six asked what he thought about the trailer of "The Force Awakens" (which was directed by J.J. Abrams), Lucas had no preamble in admitting that he hasn't watched it yet.

"I don't know anything about it. I haven't seen it yet," Lucas told Page Six during an appearance in Bloomberg Businessweek's 85th anniversary.

"Because it's not in the movie theater. I like going to the movies and watching the whole thing there," he further explained to the news outlet. "I plan to see it when it's released."

According to Page Six, the sneak peek was shown in "30 North American theaters over Thanksgiving weekend by the Regal Entertainment, AMC, Cinemark and Carmike Cinemas chains." Lucas' statement is unclear whether he's waiting for the trailer to be released in cinemas or if he is planning to wait until the movie is out.

Despite personally choosing Abrams to helm the iconic franchise, Lucas wasn't too keen to see how the director executed the film. When asked by Page Six "if he was curious to see what Abrams has done with the new 'Star Wars'",  the director said, "Not really."

Lucas is still credited as a creative consultant of the new "Star Wars" movie, Page Six reports. He directed the last three films of the franchise, which was shown from 1995 to 2005. Lucas also directed the 1977 original and remained as an executive producer on all "Star Wars" movies.

Lucasfilm, his production company, was sold to Disney in 2012 for $4 billion. The sale included Lucas' wholly owned "Star Wars" franchise, the news outlet notes.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Release Date and Cast

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will most likely revolve around new protagonists portrayed by John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, and Oscar Isaac. Aside from the new trio, Mirror reports that the film will also feature original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. Other actors in the cast are Adam Driver, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max Von Sydow, Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie, and Oscar-winning actress Lupita Nyong'o.

The plot is set 30 years after 1983's "Episode 6: Return of the Jedi," which ended with the death of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, Mirror notes.

The film is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2015.
