Owners of Sony's Xperia Z Ultra can finally get their hands on the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop -- only that it's a beta version for now, wrote International Business Times. According to the outlet, Sony announced that the device's official update arrives in early 2015. Nevertheless, a custom ROM is now up for grabs.

This follows an earlier account from TechnoBuffalo which claimed that Lollipop has arrived in the Google Play Edition version of Xperia Z Ultra. The source cited an Android Central forum user who posted a screenshot of the update as evidence. On the other hand, Christian Today noted that Sony and Google haven't confirmed the official roll-out of the firmware yet.

IBT listed the following as features of the Lollipop AOSP custom ROM:

1. Audio

2. Ambient light sensor

3. Bluetooth

4. Booting

5. Camera

6. Gravity sensor

7. Incoming Calls

8. Mic from Headset

9. Microphone

10. Mobile Data

11. Outgoing calls

12. Radio Interface Layer

13. SMS

14. Touch

15. Wi-Fi

Accordingly, the Operating System's video playback, signal indicator and GPS needed fixing at the time of reporting. Since this version of Lollipop is all but official, firsthand bugs and issues may always be expected.

Meanwhile, Android Origin reported that Sony is also rolling out Lollipop for the rest of its Z-line devices, which include Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.

Recalling Sony as the first OEM to release Android 4.4.4 KitKat, the outlet is convinced that the company serves Android's latest OS in the next 30 to 60 days.

If this holds true, we might see their OTA updates before the calendar hits March 2015 -- the month of the next Mobile World Congress, where we expect to see Samsung's Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, HTC's One M9 and One M9 Prime.

Among Sony's targeted list, we're eyeing a flagship smartphone to get the upgrade first -- after Quikdocs specifically pointed that Xperia Z1 could expect Lollipop's appearance in January. That said, all we can do is wait for now.
