If Apple took the idea of launching two iPhone 6s in September, Samsung has been speculated to unveil two Galaxy S6s in the future. On top of the regular S-flagship, SamMobile has learned that a Galaxy S6 Edge variant will also be coming.
The device is expected to draw inspiration from the Galaxy Note Edge, most notably its iconic curved display. However, the branding label S6 Edge is reportedly not final and may change "in the coming months."
This decision may not be very surprising, since Galaxy S6 in itself was allegedly dubbed to be "Project Zero" -- hinting that the Korean tech giant must have decided to start from scratch in an attempt to revive its product line, following the gloom brought by predecessor Galaxy S5. Perhaps a radical change in the landscape of S-smartphones can therefore be expected.
SamMobile noted that Samsung has claimed to concentrate on the concept of curved displays in order to keep up with cutthroat competition. TechRadar supports this notion, believing that the company might offer more curved screens in the future.
But according to NDTV, the S6 Edge contradicted the earlier speculation which saw the Galaxy S6 sporting dual-edge screen, implying a curved display on both its left and right sides.
We have also reported earlier that the Galaxy S6 has been rumored to feature a full-metal frame that comes with a foldable display. Again, this concept was attributed to Galaxy Note Edge's look.
The Galaxy S6 is expected to pack QHD display (2560 x 1440 pixels), 32 GB / 64 GB / 128 GB storage options, Broadcom's BCM4773 sensor chip, 16 or 20 MP main camera and a 5 MP front snapper, SamMobile says. The device allegedly comes in two variants of different processors: one is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, while the other is run by 64-bit Exynos 7420 (four Cortex-A53 and four Cortex-A57 cores).
NDTV cites the possible inclusion of a Sony IMX240 camera sensor, the type found in Galaxy Note 4.
We have mentioned in our previous report that the device may pack 3 GB of RAM, running the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop. The OS began its roll-out Nov. 3 -- at present, the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S4 already got unofficial firmware builds.
Samsung Galaxy S6 has been strongly suggested to launch in the next Mobile World Congress, dated March 2 -5 in Barcelona, Spain. HTC's One M9 is also expected to make an appearance in the said event.
