The spinoff series of AMC's "The Walking Dead" is currently being developed, and along with that comes cast announcements for the upcoming zombie drama. Just recently, Deadline officially confirmed that Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey have been chosen to play major roles in the companion series unofficially titled "Cobalt."

According to Deadline, the spinoff will take place "during the same zombie apocalypse depicted on 'The Walking Dead' but in a different location." The plot will reportedly focus on a divorced male teacher and a "female guidance counselor".

It's not clear if the newly announced cast members will play the lead parts, but Deadline noted that Dillane will portray the role of "the woman's son", who's battling drug addiction problems while Debnam Carey will play the character of the woman's levelheaded and "ambitious daughter."

The news outlet also revealed interesting details about the actors' past roles. Dillane played the young Tom Riddle in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" while Australian actress Debnam Carey had roles in "Into the Storm" and "The Devil's Hand." She also starred in another AMC show "Galyntine," which didn't push through.

The companion series is created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson, with Adam Davidson directing. E! Online added that "The Walking Dead" executive producers Gale Ann Hurd and David Alpert are also producing "Cobalt."

In another report from E! Online, Kirkman stated that "Cobalt" will shed new light about the fictional zombie apocalypse.

"There are many corners of 'The Walking Dead' universe that remain unseen in the shadows. Being given the opportunity to shine a light into those corners and see what lurks out there is an absolute thrill. I know the fans are anxious to hear what Dave and I have been cooking up for this new universe of 'The Walking Dead,' and I'm happy to be one step closer to sharing it with them," he said, as quoted by E! Online.

Erickson is also looking forward to the companion series.

"I've been fortunate to have collaborated with both Robert and AMC on past projects and I'm thrilled to join them again, along with Gale and David, to build upon 'The Walking Dead's' already epic narrative," Erickson said via the entertainment news outlet.

SlashFilm reports that "Cobalt" is expected to begin shooting this month. There is no official announcement yet about the show's exact airing date. Until then, fans should expect more casting news and character details in the coming months.
