France and Ukraine will face off in the second leg of the World Cup playoffs on Tuesday.
The Ukrainians are in complete control heading into the second leg as they hold a 2-0 lead. The aggregate score means that France must win 2-0 to force extra time and needs a 3-0 victory to eliminate its opponents. However, the situation is a bit more fragile for the French as they must score the first goal of the game. If Ukraine manages the opening tally, then the aggregate stands at 3-0 with an away goal in the Ukrainians' favor. France would then need to pull off a 5-1 victory to overcome three goal deficit and the away goal; the Ukrainians have not conceded a goal in their last eight matches and have only allowed four goals in all 11 World Cup qualifiers including Friday's first leg.
"We are ready to die on the field to get there," France's Olivier Giroud, said according to ESPN. "We want to show the French people and to ourselves that we are proud to represent France. We want to make proud all the people who love us and support us.
"I am offended [with the first-leg display]. I want to redeem myself. Like all my team-mates, I guess," he added about the team's performance in the opening leg. "They will give us exactly the same treatment on Tuesday. We won't be surprised. They are going to hit us hard.
"We want to do better, to make history. It is a matter of pride. We'll do it, I firmly believe. Today, I still can't grasp the idea of France not going to Brazil," he noted. "We must find the right balance, to continue to play our game. This is not easy because there will be a lot of tension, a lot of stress. This is the game of the year."
Prediction: France manages a 1-0 victory at home but is subsequently eliminated.
Start Time: Kickoff begins at 3 p.m. EST
