Most of the Android world has its eyes eagerly set on the brand new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, but that doesn't mean manufacturers have forgotten about older versions. While it's not the latest or shiniest, Samsung has started pushing out Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet.
According to reports from Germany, update XXDMJ1 is now available for download over the air for the GT-P5110 Wi-Fi model of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1. It's unclear if other regions around the world are also receiving the update over the air, although users can download the firmware through Samsung's KIES software if need be. Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 owners can manually check for the update by going to Settings > About Tablet > Software updates.
Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean isn't going to be a major game changer, although, since the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a tablet, the upgrade will bring multiple user profiles to the device. Users can now set up different profiles for different people, much like a desktop computer, and regulate app purchases, content, and more for each one. Other than that, and the standard performance and security tweaks, Android 4.2.2 does bring lockscreen widgets, a Daydream screensaver mode, and more customization options.
It's unclear at the moment if Samsung will upgrade the device to Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Android, in the future.
