Ridley Scott revealed that "Blade Runner 2" will start filming next year, but someone else will direct it. However, Scott will still play a major role in the film as producer and is currently working with the original "Blade Runner" movie's scriptwriter, Hampton Fatcher.

"We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one," Scott said in an interview with Variety, adding that fans can expect to see Harrison Ford return to the franchise as Rick Deckard.

"Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it's about finding him; he comes in in the third act."

Scott and Ford reportedly did not get along on the set of the first "Blade Runner" movie, Forbes reports.

However, it was not revealed whether their disparity was the reason behind Scott not returning as director, or because of the 76-year-old's lack of time to actually direct the film. Scott has several movie line-ups next year, according to Indie Wire.

The "Blade Runner" director indeed has his hands full this coming year with a new film "Exodus: Gods and Kings" coming up in December, a collaboration with Matt Damon in "The Martian" and a sequel to "Prometheus" underway.

James Cameron did a pretty decent job in the sequel of Scott's classic sci-fi movie "Alien" with the equally thrilling "Aliens." Whether "Blade Runner 2" will be a hit like "Aliens" or a miss depends, in part, on who helms it. Needless to say, the director will face the same pressure Cameron dealt with when he took on "Aliens."

But for now, with Scott still involved in the sequel, the movie could still feature the elements which fans of the franchise expect from the classic film, Indie Wire adds.

"Blade Runner" premiered back in 1982. It tells the story of a veteran blade runner by the name of Rick Deckard (Ford) who tried to catch and kill four human-like robots called replicants made by Tyrell Corporation in the futuristic dystopian city of Los Angeles.

As the story goes, replicants are banned on Earth and were mainly used for menial or dangerous work. Those who defy the ban would be hunted down by special police forces known as "blade runners."

"Blade Runner 2" doesn't have a release date yet and aside from Harrison Ford, there is no news of other would-be cast members as of now.
