Prospective Nexus 6 buyers who are planning to get the new handset through AT&T may not hold their prized possession just yet. The network carrier is "reportedly returning first-wave Nexus 6 units to Motorola," said IGN.

The outlet cited claims that a certain software bug is causing network connectivity issues while some users reportedly get blank screens.

Android Community noted even further that some users complained about boot-up problems.

The issue appears to be crippling most specially for a new smartphone shipping with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop. A Motorola spokesperson admitted via Tech Times, "We delivered a small number of Nexus 6 smartphones with incorrect software to AT&T customers who pre-ordered."

But the company has claimed addressing the issue already. "The incorrect software [prevents Nexus 6] from starting up properly. We will provide replacements for consumers whose phones are affected. The problem has been corrected and the phones currently shipping are fine," the rep added.

According to Bidness Etc, AT&T offers a modified, locked version of the Nexus 6 -- packed with its own bloatware. The 32 GB version of the handset reportedly retails for $649, while the 64 GB version comes at $699.

Those who got their hands early on Nexus 6 and are currently plagued by issues may fix such annoyances manually.

BGR cited an instructional video from MashMobility.TV that teaches users (visually) how to reset established configurations in the handset, such as removing the bloatware, resetting default ringtones, reenabling tethering and opting out of the carrier's SIM lock.

As Android Authority puts it, XDA Developers have also addressed these "enhancements" with solutions. Check out five of them below (collected by @iboj007):

1. SIM-lock to AT&T

Fix it: XDA cited user @jamezr who utilized an unlocker code from www.swiftunlocks.com for $25. User @iboj007 gets his code from www.swiftunlocks.com for $9.99.

2. AT&T Logo at Nexus 6's Back

Fix it: Remove the branding icon by physical means. User @Affliction716 said, "On another note the AT&T Deathstar on the back scrapes off without leaving a mark at all!!! Just take a knife or the edge of a credit card and lightly scrape over it. Disappears like it was never there."

3. Bloatware

Fix it: @iboj007 suggests simply setting the phone without an AT&T SIM.

4. AT&T Screen on Boot-Up

Fix it: The solution came from user @bodosom. Accordingly, these steps may be taken using File Manager (with root permissions): Open /oem/media > Mount r/w > Remove or rename the file bootanimation.zip > Reboot.

5. Tethering

Fix it: According to @iboj007, tethering is normally disabled unless the device is under a tethering plan. He provides this link for more a detailed fix.
