Katy Perry is slated to perform during the Pepsi Super Bowl XLIX Halftime Show in February.

This was the announcement made by the National Football League on Sunday. The 30-year-old pop singer joins the long list of musicians who have headlined the Super Bowl show which, according to Reuters, is a much-anticipated segment. NFL.com estimated that more than 115 million viewers in the United States watched the event last year.

Sportscaster Bob Costas announced Perry's expected appearance during the game between the Dallas Cowboys and the New York Giants on Sunday.

BBC said the announcement came out with a video featuring Perry inside a "half-time show testing facility" brainstorming ideas for the show.

"It includes a glitter-filled stadium, unicorns, giant sharks breathing fire, kittens and the suggestion Perry could be wrapped in bacon," the report noted.

On her Twitter account, Perry also acknowledged the announcement made.

"Yeppers! And I've already started testing out ideas!" she posted on her social media account.

The singer also said that she is excited to perform during the halftime show.

"My band is in the other room screaming at the TV (and each other) over this Cowboys-Giants game. Can't wait for February 1st," she said in a post which came with a photo of a microphone and a football.

According to USA Today, the inclusion of Perry in the halftime show is an indication that the NFL wants to have younger artists on its stage unlike the previous years which featured Rolling Stones and Prince.

For her performance, Perry may do any of her top five songs listed below:

1. "Roar"

2. "Teenage Dream"

3. "Firework"

4. "California Girls"

5. "Dark Horse"

The pop superstar has become a Billboard regular since she started in the music scene 2008. USA Today said that she scored a multiplatinum album with Teenage Dream in 2010. Her newest album, Prism, released last year included two big hits, "Roar" and "Dark Horse".

"Roar", according to NFL.com became her 10th No. 1 single at the Top 40. It was the No. 1 single in 68 countries with more than 500,000 downloads during its first week of release. "Dark Horse", on the other hand, stayed at the Top 40 for 46 weeks. Reports noted that she is the first recording artist to go over the "75 million digital award threshold."

Her performance, according to USA Today, will come during a season marred with issues relating to domestic violence especially involving women. It started with Baltimore Ravens' Ray Rice, who was caught on camera assaulting his wife inside a casino elevator. The incident led fans and people worldwide to criticize how the NFL dealt with the event, only slapping Rice with a suspension.
