A few changes are expected to happen in the roster of Arsenal as it aims to acquire Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech while it also attempts to bring Sami Khedira to the Emirates from Real Madrid.
Arsenal is set to face Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund in the coming games and need to come back on track after it collapsed to a 3-3 draw with Anderlecht and a 2-1 defeat from Swansea City.
The International Business Times (IBT) said in a report that to be able to step up their game, Arsenal would need to join the transfer market in January. The report noted that team manager Arsene Wegner was not able to get a defensive midfielder.
The team's effort to bring Real Madrid's Khedira to Emirates also did not work as there have been reports that he might be "arriving in January."
Khedira, according to IBT, did not sign a new contract with the Champions League holders and is expected to leave by the end of the season. But it has also been noted that Khedira will not be released by Madrid by the end of the season because of a serious knee injury sustained by Luka Modric.
He is set to become a free agent next summer as Madrid has reportedly expressed no intention to offer him a new contract. Mirror said that his contract is set to expire in June 2015, but until now, there are still no negotiations on the renewal of his current deal.
The previous season was a devastation for Khedira as he had to miss most of it due to a long-term cruciate ligament knee injury he sustained in Brazil. Now that he is back on the game, he would have to prove his importance to the team especially with Modric's absence.
A Marca report said that the team has planned to replace Khedira with Toni Kroos but explained that there were no bids for the latter leading Xabi Alonso to leave for Bayern Munich.
Aside from Arsenal, Mirror said that Chelsea and Manchester United have also expressed interest in signing the 27-year-old to their respective rosters.
Another possible transfer, according to the International Business Times, is Chelsea's Cech, who will reportedly move across London to sign a £7 million deal with Arsenal.
Bleacher Report discussed that Arsenal has already agreed "in principle" to sign Cech from his current team and make an agreement happening between the two clubs.
"Chelsea 'are open to the prospect of selling' their unneeded goalkeeper for £7 million and that David Ospina's injury makes Arsenal a top contender," the report noted.
Cech has earlier revealed his plans moving forward with his career in the sports.
"As concerns my future at Chelsea, it depends entirely on the club. Everyone is asking me what if and what will be. As a player who has two years left on the contract, I cannot make choices. If the club says, 'you are staying' then I will be staying. That's why I'm staying," he was quoted by Bleacher Report as saying.
