Apple has decided to stop production of one of their newest smartphones with one manufacturer, according to a new report.
Production for the iPhone 5c will be discontinued at Foxconn's factory in Zhenzhou, China. DigiTimes reports the production will transition to the iPhone 5s.
Foxconn was allegedly responsible for 30 percent of the iPhone 5c production; the remaining 70 percent was made by Pegatron Technology.
According to DigiTimes, Foxconn declined to comment.
GSMArena noted Foxconn's Zhengzhou factory had its iPhone 5c production reduced from 50,000 units per day to 8,000 per day.
"It seems the plastic iPhone isn't doing all so well - something that isn't going to surprise anyone who has had the chance to spend some time with it," GSMArena reported. "The company earnings are safe, though, as the iPhone 5s is doing excellently, which probably was the plan in the first place. If Apple fails to react to the poor iPhone 5c performance it will be all but certain that the company never meant to diversify its portfolio with it, but just make sure the iPhone 5s gets all the attention."
According to CTech, Apple cut Pegatron's iPhone 5c production by 75 percent.
One Chinese retailer, Dixons, stated 78.6 percent of its iPhone sales were due to the iPhone 5s compared to the 21.4 percent the iPhone 5c represents. Fellow Chinese retailer Taobao also reduced the units imported to its store from between 3,000 and 3,500 to 2,500 and 3,000 units.
