While Apple has chosen to pack its latest iPhone 6 with an 8 MP sensor, rumors say that its next flagship is going to sport a major upgrade -- maybe more than just a megapixel jump -- and we've heard that it resonates with DSLR technology.
Despite the single-digit megapixel cameras offered by the current iPhones, BGR reported that they had been praised by professional photographers. Such premise makes us wonder: how can Apple further improve the iPhone's camera?
The outlet cited insider John Gruber's account via The Talk Show (Daring Fireball), "The specific thing I heard is that next year's camera might be the biggest camera jump ever."
"I don't even know what sense this makes, but I've heard that it's some kind of weird two-lens system where the back camera uses two lenses and it somehow takes it up into DSLR quality imagery," he spilled.
That's it -- Apple could be working on iPhone snappers inspired by the mechanism powering professional-standard cameras.
Gruber's claim references a future handset which could either be the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7. Both smartphones are churning rumor mills at present.
Forbes cited details which could possibly support Gruber's note. According to the outlet, "The iPhone is the world's most popular cameraa" over the last three years. Photography site Flickr was reported to store more iPhone images than any other source.
The Cupertino giant also didn't pay much attention to megapixel battles. Instead, Forbes noted that the company focused on performance: low-light resolution, Focus Pixels and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) are elements incorporated and improved in the newest iPhone models.
A dual-lens camera set-up is already in existence, thanks to HTC's One M8. However, Know Your Mobile wrote that the device wasn't well-received because of HTC's low-resolution sensors. The outlet reiterated that the Taiwanese manufacturer has utilized additional depth sensor in the creation of a depth-of-field effect, a feature sported by DSLR photography.
The Tech Block mentioned that Sony, Apple's traditional sensor supplier, is developing a new smartphone camera sensor that offers 21 MP within a small 1/2.4-inch design. Know Your Mobile said it can be a compact avenue for Apple to experiment on. Perhaps we'll have to wait until Tim Cook and company confirm.
We have reported earlier that the iPhone 6S may launch next year.
