The semi-finals round of "Dancing with the Stars" opened up with amazing performances from the five remaining pairs of semifinalists who danced to "Plugged and Unplugged" versions of the same song.
Several couples stood out, but one had to go home and lose the chance of winning the Mirrorball Trophy.
Tommy Chong and pro Peta Meurgatroyd were eliminated in this week's episode, TV Line reported. The duo performed jazz and rumba dance numbers -- to the tune of 80s classic "Tainted Love" -- but it did little to fully impress the judges. Julianne Hough commented "You are the wildcard...and that was wild!" Carrie Ann Inaba said, "Peta, you are the hardest working woman in show business...you've made Tommy like the most valuable player."
In the end, the judges gave 7s to the couple, receiving a total of 62 points, ABC noted.
After being eliminated, the twosome received a standing ovation from the audience. The 76-year-old Tommy graciously said, "I just showed that old stoners can perform when they need to," as quoted by TV Line.
In an interview with E! Online, Peta revealed that she is proud of Tommy.
"I guess it just like floored me with, like, how loved he is," she told E! Online. "I am so in love with him right now. I just love him so much."
Tommy, however, said that he is surprised he made it this far in the competition. "I made it this far based on my reputation more than anything," he told E! Online.
On the other hand, Janel Parrish and pro Val Chmerkovskiy earned the highest points of the night, according to ABC. The duo earned a total of 78 points with their Paso Doble and Argentine tango numbers, with nothing but 10s from the judges.
Carrie Ann was delighted, saying, "That was over way too soon, it was so dynamic, so dramatic!" Julianne and Len Goodman both praised the perfectly synched routine, while Bruno Tonioli named the pair as "an untamed force of nature," TV Line reported.
Bethany Mota and pro Derek Hough earned 76 points for their "contemporary dance choreographed beautifully around a lone white picture frame," TV Line added while Len hailed the performance as "a Picasso of a dance." Julianne commented, "It was picture-perfect." Like Janel and Val, they also got perfect 10s from the judges.
As for the other couples, Sadie Robertson and pro Mark Ballas received a total of 74 points. Alfonso Ribeiro and partner Witney Carson got a total of 75 points from the judges, ABC noted. There were doubts whether Ribeiro would perform in the competition due to his back injury, but he pushed through and danced with his partner to the tune of Christina Grimmie's "Love Runs Out," another report from E! Online stated.
