The U.S. soccer team must not lose a point to Ireland in the dying minutes of their friendly match on November 18.
The team reportedly let go of its 1-0 lead at the 60th minute of their friendly against third-ranked Colombia Friday at Craven Cottage, London, when Carlos Bacca equalized, and then lost when Teo Gutierrez produced in the 87th. A similar scenario happened to the friendlies against Ecuador and Honduras on home soil.
"The U.S. has now coughed up a lead for their third-straight friendly match and in their last nine games they have now let in nine goals in the last 10 minutes of games," Pro Soccer Talk noted in its report.
The United States and Ireland last faced each other in April 2002 at Landsdowne Road in Dublin, where the Aviva now stands, the hosts winning, 2-1, according to the International Business Times.
MLS Soccer wrote that the match is their ninth all-time, with Ireland leading, 4-2-2.
It is the U.S. team's fourth match since the World Cup and Klinsmann observed that the U.S. team was out of shape.
"Right now they are on their way back but it took quite a long time because they came late in the preseason. They are not as fit yet to play right away. Jozy (Altidore), Fabian Johnson, Timmy Chandler, John Brooks, Julian Green, all of them they have struggled. Other players have struggled with their form after the World Cup...," he said, per Pro Soccer Talk.
He added: "Some players you see them go downhill after 70 minutes and that is why we conceded a goal against Ecuador two minutes from the end and now again today."
According to Fox Sports, the team dropped DaMarcus Beasley, Jermaine Jones, Lee Nguyen and DeAndre Yedlin before departing London on Sunday. Klinsmann will not replenish the roster, now with 21 players.
In their last game for 2014, the U.S. team hopes to end on a positive note, the International Business Times reported. Their last win was in September against Czech Republic, 1-0. Altidore, whose early strike was the lone score in the Columbia match, will captain the squad instead of Clint Dempsey.
Meanwhile, the Irish team comes from a disappointing record, having been beaten by Scotland in Glasgow Friday after a winning streak against Gibraltar and Georgia, plus a draw versus World Cup champion Germany, the International Business Times added. They are now ranked fourth in Group D of the Euro 2016 qualifiers, where the first- and second-ranked squads book themselves a slot in France and the third given a chance through a playoff.
