On Friday, Marvel announced that "Rush" actor Daniel Bruhl will be joining Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) in the crossover superhero movie "Captain America: Civil War."
Bruhl will be playing villain -- though he won't be the main adversary, as claimed by Variety's sources. Instead, he is reportedly becoming "top menace" in another Marvel film, "Doctor Strange."
Producer Kevin Feige said over Marvel, "With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes."
Aside from "Rush," Bruhl made appearances in "A Most Wanted Man," "The Fifth Estate" and "Inglourious Basterds." He has worked with Ron Howard, Quentin Tarantino, Paul Greengrass, Anton Corbijn, and Michael Winterbottom. Bruhl is repped by Tavistock Wood Management, Players Agentur Management and WME, said Marvel.
Joe and Anthony Russo will be directing "Civil War," following its predecessor "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" which came out this year.
Meanwhile, Hollywood Life reported earlier speculations, claiming that Evans and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) might not appear in "Civil War" due to contract negotiations. Nevertheless, it seems logical that a certain Captain America will have to play the role, considering the franchise's title.
The film will most likely adapt the storyline from the 2006-2007 Marvel Comics plot. The story's tone began when Nitro let out an explosion, killing most New Warriors and innocent schoolchildren. Eventually, the Superhuman Registration Act was proposed by the U.S. Government to document all super-powered beings as living weapons of mass destruction.
The Registration Act soon became a law -- and Captain America operated in stealth to rescue Young Avengers. The latter were recruited into the Resistance. "Civil War" is also the time when Spider Man revealed his identity to the public.
Captain America, Hercules, Daredevil and Goliath formed secret identities, but later on fell to Iron Man's trap. Iron Man gave Captain America another chance to register. As expected, the latter refused such offer and a battle ensued.
Goliath was killed by Thor. His death became an eye-opener to the Universe and those in favor of registration declined in number. Iron Man collected members for a new group called "Thunderbolts," comprised of notorious villains.
"Captain America: Civil War" is the third installment of the "Captain America" franchise. Slated to hit theaters on May 6, 2016, the film casts Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie, as reported by Deadline. Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson's casting are also anticipated.
