Thor could die in the 2017 installment of the movie. In fact, based on film co-writer Christopher Yost's tweet, anyone in the film could die.
"Ragnarok is the end of all things. What are we supposed to do, let people live?!" reads Yost's tweet.
Design N Trend noted that "ragnarok" essentially means "the end of the universe" in the first place, making deaths given.
It "hints at the story from the comics involving an epic battle with the creatures from the Nine Realms that results in the deaths of several major characters, including Thor," said the Design N Trend report.
But wait just yet. That doesn't automatically translate to a dead Chris Hemsworth in film -- at least not if the film tweaks the comic story a bit.
"Keep in mind that the Marvel Comics version of Thor is much more dependent upon the idea that Thor is occasionally bound to a human man, too, and that ends up being the key to his escape from the void," explained Slash Film. "So he comes back in the comic stories, but there's a pretty good story set up to kill off Thor."
Thor's ultimate sacrifice, at the cost of his life, is reportedly to break the cycle controlled by Those Who Sit Above in Shadow, which keeps Asgardians from dying, Slash Film said.
But before that, Thor embarks on a search for the full wisdom of Odin, thanks to Loki's possession of the Mjolnir mold, Slash Film pointed out in the report.
"To get it Thor plucks out both eyes and ultimately hangs himself from Yggdrasil, the world tree, to attain the full wisdom of his father," the same report explained. "His actions kind of destroy all of Asgard, and leave him technically in limbo, basically floating in a void."
Marvel's Kevin Feige recently talked about Chris Hemsworth's character during the Marvel Phase 3 movies unveiling event.
"This is a very important movie for us in Phase 3," Feige said, as quoted by Headlines & Global News. "We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and impacts everything that comes after."
Feige also confirmed that Tom Hiddleston will reprise his role as Loki in the film, reported Headlines & Global News. Idris Elba (Heimdall) also said he'll shoot a scene with Thor in the "Avengers" sequel film.
Headlines & Global News reported that "the scene may set up 'Thor 3,' which will start in the immediate aftermath of 'Age of Ultron,' according to Feige."
"Thor: Ragnarok" hits theaters July 28, 2017.
