Madonna’s Clothes & Wedding Gown Auctioned; ‘Material Girl’ Outfit for $73,125

The "Material Girl" singer sold various clothing items for thousands at a celebrity auction, reported BBC News.
Specifically, Madonna's clothes "helped a celebrity auction raise $3.2m," noted BBC News. The "Icons & Idols Rock N Roll" auction, hosted by Julien's Auctions, took place in Beverly Hills, California on Nov. 7 and 8, 2014.
The celebrity auction accommodated "bidders from around the globe bidding by phone, online and in the auction room," said Julien's Auctions in a press release.
According to the press release, a "Desperately Seeking Susan" jacket sold for a record high of $252,000. One earring Madonna wore in the film sold for $34,375.
More than thirty period clothing items from "Evita" were also up for grabs, said Julien's Auctions, estimating the price to be $800-$6,000. A gown she wore in the film sold for $15,000.
Various outfits she wore in other films, music videos and tours also went for thousands of dollars including: a "League of their Own" film uniform for $31,250, a "Who's That Girl" tour dress for $50,000 and the iconic "Material Girl" music video gown and stole which sold for $73,125. The Marilyn Monroe-inspired outfit had an estimated value of $20,000 to $40,000, said Julien's Auctions.
Madonna's wedding gown, which she wore when she married Sean Penn, went for $81,250.
Other music icons' items were also up for grabs during the two-day event such as those from John Lennon, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, among others.

Julien's Auctions said that Madonna "proved her worth" during the two-day celebrity auction. But days before that, the pop icon also commanded attention at WSJ magazine's "Innovator Of The Year" Awards at the Museum of Modern Art.
Page Six reported that Madonna was able to "boss around" the crowd -- even instructing the audience when to clap. "I'll tell you when there are applause moments. You need help. This is a museum crowd," the Madonna said at the event.
