Players may need to check on their consoles as Sony officially rolled out the PS4 2.01 firmware update, wrote IGN.

PlayStation announced in an earlier tweet that the "PS4 software update v2.01 is coming soon, and will address issues some users have encountered when powering on the system from Rest Mode."

Gamespot also cited the announcement coming from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida. He said, "System software 2.01 is out for PS4, which fixes the Rest Mode issue. This is not a forced update."

The 2.0 version went live last Friday, according to BGR. It was criticized for a flaw in its new Rest Mode, which seemed to have let PS4 consoles hibernate a little too much.

To power back the console, TechRadar reported that unplugging or hard resetting helped -- although such action was discouraged by manufacturers. While Sony recommended reinstallation of the 2.0 update as a possible solution, TechRadar mentioned hearing some reports which claimed that the remedy did not always turn out to be successful.

Meanwhile, PlayStation U.K. reported that the main feature of the 2.01 update is system software stability, specifically when turning the device on. In addition, the Rest Mode was said to be improved.

Important reminders

It must also be noted that players may not be able to execute their games without updating the system software first. This depends on the software title. In addition, PlayStation warned that users should not update using other data than the official ones provided by Sony Computer Entertainment.

Users will also have to follow the methods described in the product documentation of their device. Any deviation from the standards may cause the PS4 system to operate improperly; the official update may also fail to install.

Finally, PlayStation wrote that such deviations may void the warranty of the console and affect eligibility for obtaining warranty or repair services from Sony.

PlayStationLifeStyle noted that the update takes 217 MB of space, available to download once the console is powered. Alternatively, DualShockers reported that the update can be manually initiated by going to the console's Settings > System Software Update. Follow the on-screen instructions thereafter.

In the meantime, check out some of Amazon and Walmart's Black Friday deals for the PS4 and Xbox One here.
