Samsung's Galaxy S6 is speculated to be cooked deep within the Korean tech giant's headquarters, according to insiders cited by Trusted Reviews. Currently, the upcoming flagship is rumored to sport the codename "Project Zero."
These unnamed sources, apparently coming from SamMobile, revealed that "Samsung is developing its next-generation flagship device from scratch, with an entirely new vision."
What could have prompted a change in codename? Sure it could be the Next Big Thing -- "Project Zero" is a direct diversion from Samsung's previous alphabet takes, which included "Project J" (Galaxy S4), "Project H" (Galaxy Note 3), "Project K" (Galaxy S5) and "Project T" (Galaxy Note 4).
"Drastic times call for drastic measures" -- this could be the adage Samsung presently lives by. The New York Times wrote, in a recent report, how the company's July-September quarterly profit dropped in over three years. To specify the figures, the outlet noted Samsung's profit falling by 60.1 % from a year earlier, to 4.1 trillion won ($3.9 billion).
Did predecessor Galaxy S5 cause such decline?
Earlier this year, Cult of Mac reported how the Galaxy S5 fared in its first month of U.K. sales, lagging behind the already-established iPhone 5s and the so-called "flop" iPhone 5c. The outlet cited research company Kantar Worldpanel to provide the figures.
Still, S5 gave a good fight. Seventeen percent of new S5 owners during the time were reported to be former iOS users. In addition, the Galaxy S5 had a more favorable situation in the U.S., selling more than 5c -- although it still fell below 5s.
Larry Magid from Forbes commented that the S5 was "very good but not amazing."
Then with Samsung's "Project Zero," it appears users are in for something definitely better.
Expectations in Samsung's Galaxy S6 include a metal casing, following the trend set by the company's earlier released Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4. It then becomes the first in the S-line to sport such design, providing a more premium feel.
Android Pit predicted that the S6 may also include a 4K screen, 64-bit processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 808), 3 or 4 GB RAM, 20 MP camera, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) support, iris-scanning technology and Tizen platform support.
It is uncertain whether or not Samsung shifts from its usual release date pattern concerning the Galaxy S6, said Gotta Be Mobile. The S5 was announced at the Mobile World Congress in 2013. The next MWC is set on Mar. 2-5, 2015.
The device may be priced for £549 SIM-free (around $880), according to Expert Reviews.
