After eight days of tennis action at Roland Garros, the quarterfinals of the 2013 French Open kick off Tuesday with some of the best in the world of tennis in action.

On Monday, defending champion Rafael Nadal, celebrating his 27th birthday in style, advancing to the quarterfinals by besting 6-4, 6-1, 6-3. No.1-seeded Novak Djokovic also advanced, beating Philipp Kohlschreiber 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Tommy Haas, 35, made history by becoming the oldest Frenchman to reach the quarterfinals at the French Open by beating Mikhail Youzhny 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. And No. 9 Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland rallied in five sets to defeat No. 7 Richard Gasquet of France 6-7 (5-7), 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 8-6.

Meanwhile, on the women's tourney at Roland Garros, No.3-seeded Victoria Azarenka put on a dominating display, vanquishing 2010 champion Francesca Schiavone only two sets, 6-3, 6-0. Defending champion Maria Sharapova continued to impress with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Sloane Stephens. Maria Kirilenko made her first French Open quarterfinal by stopping Bethanie Mattek-Sands, 7-5, 6-4.

The action continues on Tuesday as Federer, who needed five sets to beat Gilles Simon in the fourth round, faces off with No.6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who has won each of his first four matches at the open in straight sets. No.4 David Ferrer will take on No.32 Tommy Robredo; Ferrer has been looking great at Roland Garros so far, winning in straight sets in all of his matches while Robredo has taken three consecutive matches to five sets, providing some thrilling moments for the crowds.

And in women's action, No.1-ranked Serena Williams looks to continue her mastery at the French Open, where she has won in straight sets in the first four rounds, when she takes on 2009 French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova. In more action, No. 4 Agnieszka Radwanska collides in quarterfinals action with No. 5 Sara Errani.
