Fans of the "Kung Fu Panda" movie franchise are in for a treat. The third installment of the popular animated movie featuring the adventures of Po the Panda is slated to be released in theaters next year.
Hallels reported that the third film of DreamWorks Animation's hit cartoon movie is expected to be out on December 23, 2015, and it features new voice talents.
"Kung Fu Panda 3" Cast and Creators
According to the Hallels report, "Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston will be the voice of Po's father. "Kung Fu Panda 3" will also showcase the voices of actors Rebel Wilson of "Pitch Perfect" and Mads Mikkelsen, who plays as the human-flesh eating Hannibal Lecter on the TV show "Hannibal."
Hallels added that Cranston, Wilson, and Mikkelsen will join the voice talents of the original "Kung Fu Panda" crew, namely: Jack Black as the titular character Po, Angelina Jolie as Tigress, Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifu, Jackie Chan as Monkey, Lucy Liu as Viper, David Cross as Crane, James Hong as Mr. Ping, and Seth Rogen as Mantis.
This will be the first time that Mikkelsen will voice an animated character, unlike Cranston and Wilson. The latter played Raz in "Ice Age: Continental Drift" while Cranston voiced Vitaly the tiger in "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," as stated by a report from Cinema Blend.
According to another report from Cinema Blend, "Kung Fu Panda 3" will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson who was also behind the two previous "Kung Fu Panda" movies. Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger will be the writers for the third installment which will be produced by Melissa Cobb.
20th Century Fox will be the distributor of the film, as noted by Cinema Blend. It will also be co-produced by Oriental DreamWorks based in China.
Plot Synopsis
"Kung Fu Panda 3" will pick up on Po's adventures in the second film as the Chosen One. According to plot rumors reported by Hallels, Po will continue mastering the art of Kung Fu and noodle slurping and will be fighting two villains -- one supernatural creature and one extremely close to home.
Cinema Blend adds that the third movie's original release was March 18, 2016, but was subsequently moved to December 2015 to swap the project for the in-development "Mumbai Musical."
Hallels added that DreamWorks Animation's CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said three more "Kung Fu Panda" films will be out on top of the first three -- to complete the six movies originally planned.
