Jennifer Lawrence will soon be seen in the highly anticipated movie, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I." Although the latest installment is already exciting fans, her other film, "Serena," is not getting favorable reviews from critics.

Directed by Susanne Bier, the movie revolves around the ups and downs of George Pemberton's (Bradley Cooper) marriage with wife, Serena (J-Law). It is set during the Depression era, while the characters are building a successful timber business. Things become complicated when George discovers Serena cannot bear any kids.

The period melodrama is an adaptation of a novel written by Ron Rash. It is the third movie tie-up of the two stars; the first two films were "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle."

Its moving and touching plot has once taken the interest of award winning director, Darren Aronofsky, who's behind the hit dark film "Black Swan." It was also once reported that another Hollywood A-lister, Angelina Jolie, once showed interest in playing the part.

Despite such a demand, many critics deemed that the movie will be a flop.

According to Screenrant"Serena, judging by the trailer footage, seems respectable enough, but early reviews have indicated that there's a good reason why so many studios passed on the project. THR says 'it is difficult to believe a single word of ['Serena'], still less to care about [the main characters],'while Vulture's review asserts Serena is neither memorably good or bad, but just ' a wholly unremarkable piece of work.' The latter sentiment seems to best sum up the critical consensus on Serena thus far - namely, it's not a complete mess, but it's not really 'good' either."

The final verdict of whether the movie is good or bad can only depend on how the U.S. filmgoers will judge it, Screenrant adds. It will be up against other movies, "The Gunman" and "Home" which will also arrive in U.S. theaters in March 2015.

Its entire cast and production can only cross their fingers and hope that it will perform better in the U.S. box office numbers compared to its failing stats in the U.K. region. The film, grossed about "$153,000 in U.K.'s 185 screens," FansShare reports.

Apart from its harsh reviews, FansShare adds that the recent nude photo leak scandal which victimized the 24-year-old actress may have placed a negative impact on her latest movie.

"Serena" is set to hit the U.S. big screen on March 27, 2015 but will be available via Video on Demand and iTunes a month ahead, February 26. It is currently being played in U.K. theaters.
