The Tennessee Titans will be without starting quarterback Jake Locker for the Thursday Night Football game against the AFC South division-leading Indianapolis Colts.
Locker is out for the season after suffering a Lisfranc injury in the second quarter of Tennessee's loss to division cellar-dwellars, the Jacksonville Jaguars, who earned their first victory beating the Titans 29-27 last Sunday.
Back-up QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who completed 22-of-33 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns, will handle duties under center for the rest of the year for the Titans, with Rusty Smith stepping up in the depth chart, handling back-up duties.
The timing could not have been any worse for the Titans, who are two games behind the Colts in the division and have two games left - including Thursday's night game to catch the division leaders.
"We're just concentrating on these seven weeks," said Titans coach Mike Munchak. "That's all we're concerned about. Next year is next year. Right now we just got to go forward and try to win a game."
Indianapolis is also trying to bounce back from a loss, having gotten torched by St. Louis Rams WR Tavon Austin, who helped defeat the Colts by a score of 38-8. Austin returned a punt 98 yards for a score and caught a 57- and an 81-yard touchdown passes becoming the third player in NFL history with three touchdowns of 55 yards or longer in a single game, joining NFL Hall of Famer Cliff Battles and Titans RB Chris Johnson.
Colts QB Andrew Luck threw for a career-high 353 passing yards and a touchdown but gave up three interceptions. The Colts running game has not helped much, even after making a rare mid-season trade for Cleveland Browns RB Trent Richardson, with Indianapolis being held to under 75 yards rushing in three out of the last four games.
"Certainly we're not going to bury our head in the sand on this past ball game," said Colts head coach Chuck Pagano. "We'll address the issues like we always address them. We know there are things that need to be fixed and we'll go to work on fixing those things."
