Lamarr Houston Stats: Bears Star Injury Update After Horrible Sack Celebration [Video]
Lamarr Houston's misplaced celebratory stunt added insult to injury—or as most reports say, injury to insult—during the Chicago Bears' 51-23 loss against the New England Patriots on Sunday.
The defensive end's ill-conceived gesture after a sack in the dying minutes of the football game might now cost him months of regret, after he suffered a leg injury, the Bleacher Report said.
In fact, For the Win said, the move dethroned Sammy Watkins' equally embarrassing showboating after what he thought was a touchdown in the Buffalo Bills' 43-23 win versus the New York Jets.
Down 25 points with 3:49 on the clock, Houston made sure his fourth-quarter sack on New England backup, Jimmy Garoppolo, would not go unnoticed by way of what appeared to be a "discount double check move," For The Win explained.
However, he fell on the ground, clutching his right leg after a failed landing. Watch it here.
A teammate assisted him up, and he was able to walk a few steps with a noticeable limp before he sat on the field and paramedics stepped in.
The athlete was carted off, and the incident is now likened to Stephen Tulloch's season-ending injury on Week 3, For The Win noted.
According to NFL.com, Houston hurt his knee and is scheduled for an MRI tomorrow. NFL's Ian Rapoport reported that he was expecting the injury to end his season.
Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports tweeted that the team was expecting the same thing: "Word on Bears DE Lamarr Houston is the team is fearing a season-ending knee injury. MRI tomorrow to confirm, prepared for bad news."
Yahoo Sports said, "Don't ever do this," referring to the troublesome gesture. Saying Houston was part of a defensive force that handed a "dubious Chicago record" of 38 points to the other team, it expected the 27-year-old to act humbly.
Taking a similar stance, CBS Sports said, "When you're on the losing end of 51-23 rout and the backup quarterback is in, do everyone a favor and don't celebrate a sack." Garoppolo was in for Tom Brady, who threw for 354 yards.
Houston said he "probably shouldn't have celebrated like that, but it happens," per a tweet by Shalise Manza Young of the Boston Globe.
The sack was his first of the year after inking a five-year $35-million free agent contract, NFL.com explained. It was for a loss of 11 yards.
Houston recently grabbed headlines for yelling at his teammates in the locker room after their loss to the Miami Dolphins. Earlier in the month, he had also posted a controversial tweet, telling those who lost confidence in his team after being defeated by the Carolina Panthers to "eat dirt."
Adam Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times said in a tweet: "TE Lamarr Houston said he didn't feel like he tore anything." We hope he thought right and gets a shot at redemption. If Houston's season ended on Sunday, the Bleacher Report said, Chicago's defense would suffer.
