Lakers Roster & Latest News: Steve Nash Back Injury Outs Him For Entire NBA Season
The Los Angeles Lakers will be playing in the upcoming NBA season without point guard, Steve Nash, who is still suffering from a recurring back injury.
In an announcement, the Lakers said that Nash will not be able to participate for the whole season because of nerve root irritation.
Fox Sports said that the Lakers player recently complained of back pain when he was carrying travel bags in his hometown a few days ago. But despite being declared unable to play for the season, Nash said that he will still be able to comeback after his recovery.
"Being on the court this season has been my top priority, and it is disappointing to not be able to do that right now. I work very hard to stay healthy, and unfortunately my recent setback makes performing at full capacity difficult. I will continue to support my team during this period of rest, and will focus on my long-term health," he told Fox Sports.
While he is out of the court, Nash said that he will rest and focus on the rehabilitation of his injury. He was only able to play 65 games for Los Angeles since he became part of the team two years ago.
The team also suffered a devastating loss last season when star player Kobe Bryant had to miss most of the games due to injuries.
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak said in the Fox Sports report that not having Nash is disappointing for the team.
"As disappointed as we are for ourselves and our fans, we're even more disappointed for Steve. We know how hard he's worked the last two years to try to get his body right for the rigors of the NBA, and how badly he wants to play, but unfortunately he simply hasn't been able to get there up to this point in time. Steve has been a consummate professional, and we greatly appreciate his efforts," Kupchak said.
The team needs to prove that despite Nash's absence, they can still make use of the talents of the other players like Carlos Boozer, Jabari Brown, Jordan Clarkson, Ed Davis and Wayne Ellington.
A CBS Sports report said that the team should make use of the exceptional point guards in their roster like Jeremy Lin.
It also noted that this career halt for Nash may be the end of his basketball life since he is already 40 years old. His back condition is also a solid proof that his age is already catching up with his skills.
But it will still be his take on whether he will still return next season or just decide to rest and enjoy life with his family since he has already built a solid career in the NBA.
