'Twilight' Saga Movies 2014: Kellan Lutz Unaware of Short Films
If you think the "Twilight" era is over, then think again. The famous story about a centuries-old vampire falling in love with a teenage girl will be revived in short films on no other than social media platform Facebook.
Last month, "Twilight" creator Stephenie Meyer and Lionsgate announced plans to handpick five aspiring female directors to make mini movies based on the "Twilight" characters. The short films will be shown exclusively on Facebook next year, according to NY Times.
"We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of 'Twilight' to a whole new audience while re-energizing existing fans," Lionsgate's vice chairman Michael Burns said on the NY Times report.
The Facebook series will be titled "The Storytellers - New Creative Voices of 'The Twilight Saga,'" according to the NY Times report. It will be backed by Women in Film, an organization devoted entirely to empowering and mentoring women in the entertainment industry.
"A group of female panelists, including the 'Twilight' actress Kristen Stewart and Ms. Meyer, will select the winning shorts and mentor participants," NY Times further reports. Other panelists include Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer, Julie Bowen, Catherine Hardwicke, Cathy Schulman, and "Frozen" director Jennifer Lee.
However, the latest news about "Twilight" didn't seem to have reached everyone. In fact, Kellan Lutz, who played as Emmett in the movie franchise, was clueless about the whole thing. When asked by MTV about the "Twilight" mini movies, the actor replied, "This is the first I'm hearing of it. What's going on with it?"
But after MTV explained to him the details, Lutz immediately said that he is enthusiastic. He even praised Lions Gate and Summit for this move.
"Well, that's very innovative. I have to hand it to Summit and Lionsgate. That's a great way to reach the masses again," the actor told MTV.
"It seems like it's going to be really interactive as well, with Facebook fans being able to voice their opinions. I just think it's a really cool idea. They better not give my character away."
Of course, the possibility of re-casting Emmett is on the table and it seems that Lutz has no problem with it. He even said that he is grateful for whatever Meyer and Lionsgate's plans are for his character.
"'Twilight' was such a blessing that I couldn't have foreseen and it doing what it did," he said on the MTV report. "Lionsgate is smart. Look what they're doing. I'm sure the fans are just gung-ho about that."
"We are undead. We will never die. We will always be there," Lutz said. "You have nothing to worry about," the actor concluded.
