'Scandal' TV Show Season 4: Tony Goldwyn Sex Scenes 'Hard to Do', Says Kerry Washington
Even though she does a pretty good job of making all scenes look real and natural, "Scandal" TV show star Kerry Washington talks about the uncomfortable experience of doing sex scenes with co-star Tony Goldwyn.
Speaking to Allure Magazine for the cover of its November 2014 issue, the actress admits it doesn't feel quite that natural when you're doing the scenes.
"They're hard to do. Sex scenes are always awkward," admits the 37-year-old to Allure.
"You're doing things that you're supposed to do with only certain people in your life. Because this is not your real partner in life, doing that is awkward. And then doing it in a room full of people is awkward," explained Washington, who's married to NFL player Nnamdi Asomugha, 32.
Washington, who plays fixer Olivia Pope, mistress of President Fitzgerald Grant, is respectful of the relationship both she and Goldwyn have in real life.
"Particularly with a show like ours, where people are so invested in the chemistry, you just learn to be careful, because people's real relationships in life are important. I so respect and admire his wife [Jane Musky] and him and their family, and he feels the same way about mine. And so you learn to be careful about how you say things," said Washington.
What else does the new mom reveal about her character? She tells the mag, more than the clothes, it's also all about the shoes.
"There's a reason why you say, 'Oh, they walk in this world in a certain way.' Shoes have a big impact," Washington said.
She added, via Fashion Times, "Even in rehearsals at Scandal, oftentimes I'll ask for my shoes. I'll be standing around in my sweatpants and tank top and hoodie sweatshirt with Christian Dior or Gucci shoes, because I want to be able to walk and stand like Olivia."
The notoriously secretive actress doesn't speak of her personal life too often nor has she made many public appearances with her significant other. It was only a few months earlier when Washington and Asomugha welcomed their daughter Isabelle Amarachi Asomugha after getting married secretly in Idaho last year.
In a rare moment, she spoke about her personal life: "I feel really, really blessed," said the TV star to the LA Times via Huffington Post earlier this year after giving birth. "I just feel really blessed that I'm kind of living extraordinary dreams come true in my work life and in my personal life."
