OnePlus One Phone Specs, Features, Release Date: Android Phone to Go on Public Sale; Price & Where to Buy
Seven days from now, those who want to get their hands on the One Plus One Android phone will be able to do so - even without an invite.
The Android phone's pre-order system was revealed a month ago in a blog post by Carl Pei, director of OnePlus Global. According to him, the company is not doing away with the mantra of producing devices they're "100% sure will be sold" but instead, want to provide interested buyers an alternative to the invite-only order process.
"During a limited time window, you will be able to place an order for the OnePlus One. If we have the items in stock, we'll ship immediately. If we don't, it will automatically become a pre-order.
"No matter what, we'll always tell you our best approximation for when it will ship before you submit the payment authorization (we'll reserve the payment and charge you when we ship)," he said in the post.
Now, a recent blog post has revealed the exact date and time for the said pre-order.
"Pre-orders will [officially] open on October 27 at 15:00 GMT (08:00 PST, 11:00 EST). During a one hour time window, anyone can place an order for the OnePlus One," it said.
Aside from the One, accessories will also be up for grabs at discounted prices.
"All of our accessories will be sold at celebratory sale prices when added to your order. In fact, for this week only our latest collaboration the JBL E1+ Earphones will be available for $24.99 and will revert back to full price once pre-orders have ended," said the post.
The OnePlus One phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display.
It runs on a "special version of Cyanogen" which the OnePlus One's website says is "based on Android." Learn more about CyanogenMod here.
With a 3100mAh battery, the OnePlus One lasts users about a day. It also comes packed with 3GB DDR3 RAM and a 13 megapixel Sony Exmor IMX214 rear camera with f/2.0 aperture coupled with a 5 megapixel front snapper.
For features, the phone boasts of "on screen gestures for easy control." The OnePlus One phone site explains:
"Tap twice and your screen will come to life, or draw a simple image on the sleeping screen to launch your preferred app. The screen will respond even if your hands are wet."
OnePlus One also has capacitive keys which can be turned off, in favor for on-screen keys.
Price for the OnePlus One is $299 for the 16GB Silk White model and $349 for the 64GB Sandstone Black.
