Shailene Woodley, one of Hollywood's young stars is generating Oscar buzz for her role in summer blockbuster "Fault in Our Stars."
According to HitFix, the 22-year-old "Divergent" star could be the dark horse in this year's award show.
Noting the star's notable work for other projects that include "The Descendants" and "The Spectacular Now." With regards to her performance in the "Fault in Our Stars," the site wrote: "Woodley received near universal acclaim for her work and the film turned out to be one of the surprise global blockbusters of the summer."
However, what is running against the star? HitFix reports that the film may be considered "too much of a studio melodrama to have any of its performances to be taken seriously but Woodley's turn is credited for winning over audiences and should be a prime contender in this unusually weak field."
Similarly, The Hollywood Reporter has also identified the actress as a frontrunner for the Best Actress category.
The film is based on John Green's bestselling novel and offers audiences a insider's view at the experiences of 16-year-old Hazel Grace Lancaster -- played by Woodley -- as she lives with thyroid cancer. She makes a miraculous recovery after nearly dying during her preteens. Love blossoms with Gus (Ansel Elgort) whom she meets after attending a cancer support group.
Other actresses in the running? THR named Woodley's peers to be the likes of Julianne Moore (Still Alice), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Reese Witherspoon (Wild) and Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl).
Woodley On Preparing For the Role
In order to internalize the role, Woodley spent time with real-life patients, revealed CBS News. Speaking on the experience, the actress admits it was an eye-opener.
"It's sort of like cancer doesn't define them in the same way any condition that any of us have doesn't define us," Woodley shared, "Very rarely did we actually talk about cancer with them."
"I mean we tried to keep it upbeat as much as possible. But it would go up and down," chimed in her co-star Elgort. "There would be days if it was an emotional day, it would be pretty emotional. But then we tried to keep it light as much as possible. Because that's the underlying tone of the movie."
Elgort and Woodley are once again costars when they appear in the upcoming sequels of "Divergent."
The Oscar nominations will be announced on Jan. 15, 2015 when all the films to be released this year would have been screened.
It was recently confirmed by actor Neil Patrick Harris via social media that he will be hosting the 2015 Oscars slated for February 22nd.
