New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan gets an opportunity for revenge against his former employers, the Dallas Cowboys (5-4), on Sunday Night Football, as the Saints (6-2) attempt to bounce back from their upset loss to the New York Jets. Ryan, who was let go by the Cowboys after coaching their defense between 2011 to 2012, has revamped a Saints defense that had a reputation for being soft, currently ranked fifth against the pass (211.9 yards per game), eighth in points allowed (19.4) and ninth in yards allowed (333.1) this season. "Any time a guy gets fired from a spot he's at and he has an opportunity to play them, he wants to prove a point," Saints CB Keenan Lewis. "They know that. We know that." Despite improvements on the defensive side of the ball, New Orleans has struggled against the run, ranked 25th in the league, giving up 121.2 yards per game, and allowed Jets RB Chris Ivory to run over them for 139 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. The Saints also failed to force any turnovers and only got two sacks in the game. With the Carolina Panthers creeping up in the standings, the NFC South first place Saints have to be wary of the Cowboys. Luckily for New Orleans, the Cowboys, who are coming off a 27-23 come-from-behind victory against the lowly Minnesota Vikings - needing a 90-yard game-winning drive with 35-seconds left in the game, are ranked 27th in rushing, averaging a measly 75.7 yards per game. Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray returned after missing two games with a knee injury and had just 31 yards on four carries. He has 11 total carries in his last two games played. "DeMarco looked like he was going to have a good day, but as it wore on there were some minus runs that got us behind the sticks a little bit," said Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett. "Hard for us to get in a rhythm. So, when you step back from it and you look at it and say, 'Boy, we need to run it more.'" The win against the Vikings helped the Cowboys stay ahead a game ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East standings and realize the importance of playing well against the Saints if the hope to keep their lead in the division. "All wins are big," said Garrett. "Every one is big. You only play 16 games and you count the wins up at the end. You have to bring your best every Sunday in this league. We've got to learn from this one, move forward and get ready for New Orleans." You can catch the Dallas Cowboys - New Orleans Saints Sunday Night Football broadcast 8:30 p.m. Sunday night on NBC. In other Sunday Week 10 NFL action: Philadelphia Eagles (4-5) at Green Bay Packers (5-3)QB Nick Foles had the game of his life last week, tying Hall of Famer Y.A. Tittle and Peyton Manning as the only quarterbacks to throw for seven touchdowns without an interception. Foles won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week award, destroying the Raiders for 406 yards, completing 22-of-28 passes along with his seven touchdowns, as the Eagles kept pace with the Dallas Cowboys, who leads Philadelphia by a game in the NFC East standings. The Packers will host the Eagles without QB Aaron Rodgers, who will miss a few weeks with a fractured clavicle, after going down with the injury in their 27-20 loss to their division rivals, the Chicago Bears, creating a three way tie for the NFC North division lead between the Packers, Bears, and Detroit Lions. Back-up quarterback Seneca Wallace will start for Green Bay - making his 21st start in his NFL career, going 11-of-19 in their loss to Chicago, and much like Rodgers, will have to deal with a depleted wide receiver corp that has been decimated with injuries. TV: 1:00 p.m. on Fox Detroit Lions (5-3) at Chicago Bears (5-3)QB Jay Cutler is expected to return to the starting lineup since suffering a hamstring injury during the team's Week 7 loss to Washington. Cutler returns after backup Josh McCown guided the Bears to a 27-20 victory over the Packers on Monday night, going 22-for-41 for 272 yards, two touchdowns, and a 90.7 passer rating. RB Matt Forte ran for 125 yards on 24 carries, 179 total yards from scrimmage, and a touchdown helping the Bears hold down the fort while Cutler healed his injuries. The Lion, tied for first place in the NFC North along with the Bears and Green Bay Packers, are coming off a bye week, with their three-prong attack of QB Matt Stafford, WR Calvin Johnson, and RB Reggie Bush that defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Week 8. While Bush is ranked third in the NFL with 121.9 scrimmage yards per game, Stafford threw for 488 yards in their 31-30 over Dallas, with Johnson catching for 329 receiving yards - second most in NFL history, the most in a non-overtime game. TV 1:00 p.m. Fox Carolina Panthers (5-3) at San Francisco 49ers (5-3)The Panthers have crept up on the NFC South division-leading New Orleans Saints, only a game behind as they head west to take on the 49ers. The Panthers are on a four-game winning streak, pounding the ball with the run while beating teams down with their defense, thumping the Atlanta Falcons - a preseason darling to make the postseason - 34-10, with QB Cam Newton throwing for 249 yards and a touchdown despite two interceptions. The Carolina defense picked off Atlanta QB Matt Ryan three times - with DB Drayton Florence, as well as LBs Luke Kuechly and Thomas Davis all intercepting the Falcons, in the game against the Falcons. The 49ers are on five-game winning streaks, trying to keep pace with their division rival Seattle Seahawks. The 49ers return from London after crushing the inept Jacksonville Jaguars, with RB Frank Gore rushing for 71 yards, Kendall Hunter for 84 yards, and QB Colin Kaepernick adding another 54 yards and two touchdowns to go along with his 164 passing yards and throwing for a touchdown. The 49ers rushing attack has been the linchpin of their team, leading the league with averaging 153.0 yards per game while fifth in scoring averaging 27,3 points per game.
