Apple News & Keynote 2014: iPad Air 2, iPad Mini 3 & iMac 2014: Everything You Need To Know
Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has unveiled new iPad models and a Retina Display iMac on its Oct. 16 media event. Previous speculations were proven accurate, as the latest tablets were branded iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3, respectively. Both iPads will be available for preorder on Oct. 17, said NBC News.
The iPad Air 2
The 9.7-inch, 6.1 mm thick, 0.69 pound iPad Air 2 is Apple's actual metaphor for lightweight tablet. The device brands to be "immensely powerful, yet so thin and light you almost forget it's there."
Air 2 is Apple's thinnest iPad in history. It is also said to fuse three separate display components provided in the earlier models. The result? More vibrant colors and a richer contrast can be expected from the model.
Apple tells that when users touch the Air 2's screen, it would feel like touching the content for real. Improved sensitivity allows better finger-movement tracking.
We have mentioned in our earlier report about the anti-reflective coating, and yes, iPad Air 2 owns it. Reducing glare by 56%, it is the world's least reflective tablet.
But there's more breaking records claimed by the Air 2 -- it is also dubbed to be the most powerful iPad ever because of the incorporation of the new A8X chip, along with its second-generation 64-bit architecture.
Spotlight on the iPad Mini 3
Apple intended the iPad Mini 3 to be smaller -- but with its 7.9-inch Retina Display, Apple prides the device to be just as amazing. The company described, "iPad mini was designed to be a concentration, rather than a reduction... In addition to the Retina display, we packed in a tremendous amount of power and capability."
Then it seems Mini 3 is a David beating all other Goliaths in terms of performance abilities. Powered by advanced wireless technologies and the A7 chip processor, Mini 3 is also offered in gold, just like the Air 2.
Apple reiterates how earth-friendly its devices are. The Mini 3 was given as a perfect example by having a recyclable aluminum enclosure and a mercury-free LCD. In addition, it is PVC-free and BFR-free.
More features and Price info
Both the Air 2 and Mini 3 possess Touch ID fingerprint technology, iOS 8, FaceTime HD and iSight cameras, continuity features, Apple Pay and Family Sharing. The latter, which works more like a budget-saving feature, is meant for six persons who can actually share anything bought by a single member from the App Store.
The new iMac is another highly-anticipated release this fall. Owning a 5K Retina Display, Apple's newest 27-inch flagship desktop has 14.7 million pixels, providing "unbelievable detail on an unbelievable scale."
Apple claimed maintaining its standard for brightness, while having the new iMac minimize energy consumption. It is powered by a quad-core Intel Core processor that runs up to 4 GHz. It will also operate on the simultaneously-released OS X Yosemite.
For the 16 GB versions, Air 2 starts at $499 and Mini 3 at $399. Beginning at $2499, the iMac Retina can now be purchased here.
