Neil Patrick Harris Husband, Kids & Family: Boyfriend Was Burt Reynolds? No, But They Kissed
Five-Emmy winner and recent Tony awardee Neil Patrick Harris is set to emcee the Oscars on Feb 22, 2015. Variety reported that he has performed for the Academy Awards show, but this will be his first time to host the momentous event.
Yet this is not all the news surrounding the "Gone Girl" and "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" actor. He has revealed his "coming out" experience when he was 13 and how he broke the news to his mother, Sheila.
The 41-year-old entertainer discussed the experience in his upcoming autobiography, reported Daily Mail.
Flashback 1986, Harris in his middle school had a crush on a trumpet player. He opened up to his parent, "Mom, I'm afraid I'm gay."
After admitting that he was drawn to fellow males in a "tingly kind of way," Sheila responded that their [Neil's parents] love for him would not change, said the Daily Mail report. His dad Ronald, however, needed some time to take in the information.
Titled "Choose Your Own Autobiography," Uproxx wrote that Harris' memoir talked about his rise to popularity, his struggles to deal with a deteriorating career and the obstacles of accepting his gender-identity.
One revelation cited in the autobiography is a shared lip-lock with Burt Reynolds during the "B.L. Stryker" filming. He joked how that moment called it time for him to declare his sexual orientation.
He expressed, "As a joke at the end of one take, Burt leans over and kisses you square on the mouth. The crew thinks this is very funny, but it makes you uncomfortable. Uncomfortable and, it will ultimately turn out, gay. Burt Reynolds' kiss makes you gay," he said, as quoted by the Daily Mail report.
Now married and a father of twins, Harris proclaimed, "You've come a long way from the anonymous skulker trolling the AOL chat rooms... You are gay. You know that you are; you like that you are; you're proud that you are. You are totally gay... Totally in love, and it's wonderful," he added in the report.
Initially labeling himself as bisexual, his gay encounters began in 1997 with co-star Andy in the musical "Rent." He coined their affairs as a collective step towards a new life. He eventually wanted more out of their relationship.
This led him to venturing into the online world of anonymity, where he sent photos of his body parts to strangers, leading to hookups. While traveling, he made out with a man named Christophe in Germany.
Aside from coming to terms with his sexual preferences, Harris also revealed experimenting on psychedelic drugs. He found them "neither transcendent nor horrific" and just "weird."
E! said Harris' and David Burkta got married last month. Their twins Gideon and Harper turned 4 on Oct. 13, said Entertainment Tonight.
