iOS vs. Android vs. Windows Phone Market Share in US: Apple Inc., Google Total 92 Percent of Smartphone Operating Systems; BlackBerry Slips, Says comScore

Apple and Google have maintained their positions as the top two brands in the smartphone operating system market share for another period in the United States.

According to the latest statistics by comScore, Google's Android and Apple's iOS accounted for a joint 92.4 percent of smartphone operating system market share for the three months ending in September 2013.

Of the 92.4 percentage points, Android was responsible for 51.8 percent. For the Google smartphone platform, Android was able to maintain first place but saw a drop in the market share by 0.2 percentage points from the 52 percent it garnered during the three months ending in June this year.

Apple's smartphone platform was 11.2 percentage points behind Android by the time September concluded. Apple's iOS took in 40.6 percent of the market share during the three months ending in September 2013. Unlike Android, iOS saw an increase in its market share by 0.7 percentage points from the previous three-month period.

A smartphone operating system battle occurred for third place between BlackBerry and Microsoft's platforms.

In the end, BlackBerry narrowly edged out Microsoft's Windows Phone for third place by 0.5 percentage points. BlackBerry maintained third place with 3.8 percent of the market share, although it is a drop from the 4.4 percent the smartphone operating system received during the three-month period ending in June 2013.

Microsoft's Windows Phone finished another three-month period at fourth place, although the platform did increase its market share percentage. Windows Phone concluded September with 3.3 percent, which is an increase of 0.2 percentage points from comScore's previous report.

Symbian placed fifth. Symbian did not see a growth or increase in their market share percentage as the smartphone operating system upheld its 0.3 percent.
