Pacquiao vs Mayweather Fight: Floyd to Fire Dad? Hints Manny Fight Will Not Happen
Boxing fans will once again be disappointed after Floyd Mayweather Jr. revealed that he will not be fighting Manny Pacquiao next.
Floyd Jr. took back his father's words after the latter teased boxing fans by saying that a mega-fight between his son and Filipino Manny Pacquiao will happen soon.
Previously, Floyd Mayweather Sr. said, "That fight's gonna happen. Trust me. That fight's definitely gonna happen." He added that his son would make little work of Pacquiao.
But the younger Mayweather had a different story. In an interview with Fight Hype, he said, "I ain't ever taken a fight just because somebody has been running off their mouth."
He clarified, "My father is totally wrong. Like I said before, we have people constantly being removed from the Mayweather Promotions team, Team Mayweather, and we also have people being removed from The Money Team. I want my dad to be with my team, but if he continues to go out there and speak on things that he has no knowledge about without communicating with me, then I must get a new trainer."
In the meantime, he will postpone firing his father as long as the latter stops stepping out of line. Floyd Jr. has two fights remaining on a six-fight contract with Showtime. He previously shared that he will be retiring in September 2015.
He also advised Pacquiao, "The best thing for Pacquiao to do is be quiet before he really gets exposed and I tell some things that he don't want me to tell."
Mayweather vs Khan?
Floyd Jr. is still undecided on who he will be facing next. "I don't know who I'm fighting next. I don't even know if I'm fighting again. Like I told you, a lot of different crazy thoughts go through my mind every day." he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.
He added, "Sometimes I want to fight, sometimes I don't want to fight."
Instead of making a fight between him and Pacquiao happen, Floyd Jr. seemed more interested in facing the 27-year-old Brit Amir Khan. He said, "I have always said that nobody has any right just to get a fight with me. I am nobody's pay day, I am nobody's meal ticket. I take fights that I believe will test me, and will put on a good show for the fans. I ain't ever taken a fight just because somebody has been running off their mouth. If Khan gets his fight - it will be because I think he deserves a shot."
